Agrobiologic percentage method of evaluating fertilizer tests: I. Potash and tobacco

, : Agrobiologic percentage method of evaluating fertilizer tests: I. Potash and tobacco. Soil Sci 79(6): 467-473

Accumulated proof of the validity of the Mitscherlich-Baule yield equation as the sole authentic mathematical representation of the law of diminishing increments of yield in agriculture has rendered obsolete the conventional statistical methods of evaluating experiments in plant nutrition by analysis of variance. A simple graphical method has been devised wherein a "standard yield diagram" is used to determine the M.-B. equation that makes the best fit with the experimental data. The observed deviations of the experimental from the corresponding theoretical values are figured as percentages of the experimental values; the mean of these deviations is computed, which when subtracted from 100 gives directly the probability that the experimental results may be reproduced. Use of the new method is exemplified from field practice, wherein the two methods of evaluation were compared for dependability and range of information furnished.
