Continuing earlier work the authors have found that the addition of small quantities of the thick liquid or powder obtained by concentrating sterile filtrates (membrane filter) of cultures of acidophilic bacteria prevents or, in growing cultures, halts the development of various strains of Bacterium coli, aerobic spore-bearing bacilli, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Shigella, Salmonella and other organisms inhabiting the gut of animals or introduced with food.
