Determination of wood rots in standing and felled trunks

, : Determination of wood rots in standing and felled trunks. Holz-Zbl, 79: 7, 49 p

The construction and application of the Pressler increment borer for the determination of rots in conifers and very soft hardwoods are described. The implement is designed to penetrate to a depth of 6 to 40 cm. Advanced decay is immediately revealed by the condition of the borings, and even in an incipient stage it is generally recognizable by a distinct discoloration, often accompanied by a characteristic odour.
