Effects of milk by-products on vegetable yields

, : Effects of milk by-products on vegetable yields. Food Packer 29(7): 64-67

Application of skim milk and commercial fertilizer to tomato plants, either singly or in combination, when compared with no treatment, resulted in significant increases in No. 1 ripe and total ripe Bonny Best tomatoes. The skim milk was applied at weekly intervals for the first 5 weeks after transplanting in increasing amts. beginning with 10 cc. per plant the first week up to 50 cc. the last week. The same held true for Yellow Globe Danvers onions. Preliminary studies have indicated that soil applications of milk products resulted in some changes in the chemical composition of the soil and a substantial increase in biological activity.
