Investigations on the effect of chopping and wilting on the preservation of ensiled lucerne

, : Investigations on the effect of chopping and wilting on the preservation of ensiled lucerne. Meded. LandbHogesch. Gent. 18: 3, 565-91. bibl. 1

Twelve round, concrete silos, about 1 m. high and 1 m. in diameter, were filled, 4 with fresh lucerne, 4 with lucerne wilted for 24 hr. and 4 with lucerne wilted for 28 hr. In each group, two silos were filled with chopped and two with unchopped material. The amounts of chopped material per silo ranged from 435 kg. for fresh forage, to 360 kg. for forage wilted for 28 hr. The amounts of unchopped material were 200 kg. in each case.
