Maturity studies of Mclntosh apples

, : Maturity studies of Mclntosh apples. Maturity studies of Mclntosh apples, 1 p. bibl. 1

No fixed relationship has been found between starch content of apples and degree of abscission. Three years' observations show that the apparent starch loss in Mclntosh apples is linear. This linearity appears to be independent of day-to-day weather conditions. Starch levels in the fruit vary appreciably from season to season, and it now appears that maturity is connected more closely with the anatomical location of the retreating starch granules than with their actual amount. -Centr. exp.
