, : Methods used at the Swedish Forest Research Institute in seed investigations.. Medd. SkogsforsknInst., Stockh, 40: 6, 82

A detailed account, illustrated by 28 photographs, of methods used for Scots Pine and Norway Spruce seed, under the following heads: (1) Definitions and quantitative units applicable to cones, seed, germination tests and seed categories, with a list of necessary apparatus. (2) Rules for cone collection. (3) Cone storage, with special reference to the deleterious effects of damp on Spruce seed in the cone. (4) Selection of cone samples. (5) Seed extraction: procedure and apparatus. (6) De-winging and cleaning of seed. (7) Seed sampling. (8) Germiniation tests (including inter alia the determination of seedling development after 10 days as judged by fresh weight of the seedling minus the seed coat, the cutting test for ungerminated seed-with a note on the use of vital staining with 'Grodex', and the recording of results). (9) Seed storage. An abridged version is used for instructing staff at the Institute. There is a 30-page English summary, and the legends of illustrations are also translated into English.
