Observations on the multiple budding form of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis in cultures

, : Observations on the multiple budding form of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis in cultures. An. Fac. Med. Montevideo. 34: 4-5, 461-470

The simple or multiple gemmules of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis in blood agar cultures at 37 degrees C., stained with iron haematoxylin, were found to be produced by a budding process. Hypertrophied cells, 30 to 40 mu in diameter, developing after 18 to 20 days, did not appear to differ functionally from those of normal size. The crescent-shaped cells which were also observed in adult cultures are believed to arise through compression by other cells.
