Oneshift versus continuous heating for timber seasoning kilns

, : Oneshift versus continuous heating for timber seasoning kilns. For. Prod. News Lett. C.S.I.R.O. Aust, 193, 1-3

In experiments in drying a slow- and a fast-drying species (Eucalyptus regnans and Pinus radiata respectively) kilns were either heated continuously over a 24-hr. day or heated for only 8 hr., the vent dampers being set to provide only a very small opening during the period when the heat was off. To dry 1-in. E. regnans from green to 12% m.c. took 17 days (414 hr.) by continuous and 30 days (723 hr.) by one-shift drying (mean of winter and summer drying times).
