Absorption of radio-active vitamin B12 by the isolated intestine of the rat

, : Absorption of radio-active vitamin B12 by the isolated intestine of the rat. C.R. Acad. Sci, 242: 2598-2600

Isolated segments of rat intestine were incubated for 2 hr. in Warburg flasks in Krebs medium with known amounts of vitamin B12 containing 60Co; they were then thoroughly washed with fresh medium, and the retention of vitamin B12 was measured from the radio-activity of the tissue. It appeared that the vitamin was rapidly absorbed by the intestinal mucosa and, once fixed, was not removed by washing.
