Absorption of radio-active, cobalt-labelled vitamin B12 and related compounds in normal pigs and after gastrectomy or insertion of cannulae in the small intestine, with the use of factors influencing absorption

, : Absorption of radio-active, cobalt-labelled vitamin B12 and related compounds in normal pigs and after gastrectomy or insertion of cannulae in the small intestine, with the use of factors influencing absorption. Zentralbl. Vet.-med, 6: 605-624

The technique used for the separate collection of urine and faeces is described and illustrated. Only male pigs were used. Collection periods were 3, 4 or 5 of 12 hr. The pigs were then housed singly without litter for 10 to 14 days so that the continued excretion of vitamin B12 in faeces could be followed. Two pigs had the lower end of the stomach removed; another had the pyloric opening ligated and a cannula inserted in the duodenum, and yet another had the stomach removed.
