Artificial rearing of calves on pasture

, : Artificial rearing of calves on pasture. J. Brit. Grassland Soc, 12: 178-186

All calves, principally Ayrshires or Shorthorns, were given 8 Ib. whole milk daily until weaned at 120 Ib. liveweight. In one experiment, 3 calves reared on pasture from birth and 4 reared conventionally indoors all gained about 1 Ib. liveweight daily, but in a second experiment with 2 groups of 10 calves gains indoors were 1.04 and on pasture 0.76 Ib. daily.

The preliminary results of field experiments on the use of N for oranges in several localities suggest that: (1) seasonal variations in leaf N are such as to limit the use of leaf analysis as a guide to N requirements; (2) there is a critical need...

Transmission of Mycoplasma dispar among 33 newborn calves (nos. 1-33) on a dairy farm, transferred in order of birth into individual pens in a separate calf rearing room during a period of 50 days, was investigated. The first calf (no. 1) was deli...
