Cytological studies on the perfect stages of some species of Fusarium

, : Cytological studies on the perfect stages of some species of Fusarium. Canadian Jour Genet And Cytol 5(1): 60-64

Chromosome numbers were determined for five species of Gibberella and one each of Nectria and Calonectria, from studies of chromosomes in developing asci. All the species of Gibberella examined, namely, cyanea, cyanogena, fujikuroi, stilboides and zeae, have n=4 chromosomes. In a homothallic strain of Nectria haematococca, n = 5 chromosomes were counted. In a heterothallic strain of this species, although most asci appeared to have n = 5 chromosomes also, in a few cases only n=4 could be counted. Calonectria nivalis was found to have n = 7 chromosomes. In G. cyanogena and G. cyanea, it was possible to measure the length of the chromosomes. Both species have a similar karyotype with one long, two intermediate and one short chromosome making up the haploid complement.
