The author tried to improve his poor general health by avoiding carbohydrate. For breakfast he had raw egg and 1/4 litre milk; for lunch 300 to 400 g meat, not too lean, with salad or vegetables, followed by curds, ice cream, fruit salad or stewed fruit with glucose; for supper about 200 to 250 g meat or cold meats. Some alcohol was taken. Bodyweight fell slightly, then remained steady, after which it began to rise gradually.
