Papaspyrou gives the results of a survey of Echinococcus granulosas infection in dogs in Greece. The average infection was found to be 24.4%, based on autopsies and faecal counts, Figures in rural areas were higher. The reasons for this are discussed at length. Papaspyrou states that the dog is the principal factor in the maintenance and spread of E. granulosus in man and animals, along with other wild carnivores. This does not apply to the cat.
