Further studies on vitamin B12 and thymine biosynthesis

, : Further studies on vitamin B12 and thymine biosynthesis. Journal of Biological Chemistry 234: 3241-3242

Synthesis of thymine labelled in the methyl group from formaldehyde-14C, deoxyuridine and succinate incubated with bone marrow cells of chicks deprived of folic acid and vitamin B12 was improved when folic acid but not when vitamin B12 was included in the diet. Vitamin B12 added in vitro had no effect on synthesis of thymine from formaldehyde-14C or serine-3-14C, or on its synthesis from formaldehyde by Lactobacillus leichmannii.
