Influence of silica on the growth of rice plant in relation to the nitrogen levels.

, : Influence of silica on the growth of rice plant in relation to the nitrogen levels.. Sci. Reps Hyogo Univ. Agric. (Agric. Chem.), 4: 1, 13-17. bibl. 7

From field and glasshouse experiments with rice it was shown that a high level of nitrogen resulted in a low silica content throughout the plant and in lower resistance to rice-blast disease and to lodging. Slag from iron-smelting works was used to provide a silica-containing fertilizer. Applied at 112-5-375 kg per decare this fertilizer improved growth and silica content of rice plants and resulted in yields 5-11% above yields of control plants.
