Laboratory and Clinical Studies with Nystatin in Post-antibiotic Mycotic Infections

, : Laboratory and Clinical Studies with Nystatin in Post-antibiotic Mycotic Infections. British Medical Journal 1(4968): 658-660

Investigation of throat swabs and sputum from a large number of patients attending the Croydon Group of Hospitals and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, Carshalton, showed Candida in over 10 per cent. of patients who had received oral antibiotics, notably of the tetracycline series. Superinfection was found to be more troublesome in children and in elderly people. Topical application of crude nystatin and of a paste cleared mouth and pharyngeal infections.
