Cattle total 2-2 million, of which 1.5 million are buffaloes. There are a number of varieties of buffalo bearing the name of the district in which they are bred but differing little from each other. They have a quiet temperament and average 550 kg., although stud (JcJ weigh 700-800 kg. ; height at withers varies from 124 to 154 cm. They have been used exclusively for work, but the establishment of a dairy industry is now being investigated.
