Maintenance of health in ewe flock

, : Maintenance of health in ewe flock. N.Z. J. Agric, 96: 177-180

The importance of winter management of the ewe flock to maintain health is emphasised by the fact that 80 per cent, of ewe losses occur during lambing. Ewes should be held at bare maintenance during early pregnancy and the level of feeding should be gradually increased during the last 5 or 6 weeks of pregnancy. This would prevent losses from sleepy sickness and make more efficient use of available feed.
