Observations on the biology and control of the armyworm Tiracola plagiata Walk. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

, : Observations on the biology and control of the armyworm Tiracola plagiata Walk. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Papua New Guinea Agric. J, Port Moresby, 15: 3-4, 105-109

Despite its wide distribution in tropical and subtropical countries, little is known of the bionomics of Tiracola plagiata (Wlk.). It recently became a major pest of cacao at Popondetta, in the Northern District of Papua (New Guinea), and observations made in the field and laboratory there are reported. The eggs of this Noctuid are laid at night in batches of 200-1, 200 on the leaves of the food-plants.
