Peasant, lord and ruler. (Forschungen zur Geschichte Oberosterreichs)

, : Peasant, lord and ruler. (Forschungen zur Geschichte Oberosterreichs). Bauer, Herr und Landesfurst, Graz & Koln: Bohlau., 668

The living conditions of Upper Austrian peasantry during the two centuries preceding peasants' emancipation, which took place in the Austrian Empire in 1848, were characterized by oppressions on the part of landlords who had lost social contact with their dependents. The study is based on extensive use of archival material. An introductory chapter deals with the peasant movements before 1648. The first part of the book describes the classical period of unrestricted landlordism.
