Possible spreading of C. rotundus through seed-potato tubers and the influence of sprouting potatoes on the sprouting of the weed

, : Possible spreading of C. rotundus through seed-potato tubers and the influence of sprouting potatoes on the sprouting of the weed. Phyton, 16: 2, 141-5. bibl. 2

Stolons and live tubers of C. rotundus were found in seed potatoes of the variety Katahdin. It was assumed that the weed stolons had perforated the potato tubers and formed tubers within them. In a trial with potato tubers bearing C. rotundus, most of the potatoes grew into plants and the weed tubers remained dormant even after the potato tubers had decayed. Some of the potato tubers, however, did not sprout; then the tubers of C. rotundus enclosed in them sprouted and grew into normal plants.
