The estimation of (1) lean body weight from carcass water content and (2) mean lean body weight from nitrogen retention in rats used in nitrogen balance experiments

, : The estimation of (1) lean body weight from carcass water content and (2) mean lean body weight from nitrogen retention in rats used in nitrogen balance experiments. Proc. Nutrition Soc. Southern Africa. 3: 163-168

Data were in 3 categories. Ratios of lean weight to moisture content were calculated for 321 male and 197 female rats weighing 34 to 169 g and aged 38 to 65 days which had had different diets. Means were, per g moisture, 1.336+or-0.030 for males, 1.343+or-0.030 for females and 1.340+or-0.030g for combined sexes. Ratios of lean weight to body N were from 72 stock rats aged 24 to 54 days. Sex or age had no appreciable effect. Mean was 31.71+or-2.30 g per g N.
