The influence of urban expansion on agriculture

, : The influence of urban expansion on agriculture. Agrar-politische Rev. (Bern), Dez.; 1964/Jan. 20: 4/5, 178-189

Typical for suburban areas hitherto used for farming is the rapid increase of land prices, which creates unhealthy conditions, leading to abandonment of farms and to extensive use of the remaining farming areas. From experiences in the neighbourhood of Zurich it appears that - instead of a shortage of farmland which theoretically might be expected - there is a surplus of areas ready to be leased out. These plots are only occasionally used for extending existing small holdings.
