In Switzerland, excluding the Canton of Vaud, 32, 705 Simmental cattle were recorded between 1st July 1956 and 31st May 1957; of these 30, 953 completed the recording period and had an av. production of 3764 kg. milk with 152.5 kg. and 4.05% butterfat. The production of the 23, 577 that fulfilled requirements averaged 3843 kg. milk with 155.6 kg. and 4.05% butter-fat. The av. production of cows at high altitudes was 600. 700 kg. less than that of cows in the valleys.
