The residual effect of fertilizers applied to lucerne before sowing

, : The residual effect of fertilizers applied to lucerne before sowing. Ann. Sta. chim.-agr, Roma, 171, 177-83. bibl. 6

Trials were carried out on calcareous soil in the Fucino area to study the effect on lucerne and a following sugar-beet crop of applying large amounts of P and K fertilizers before sowing lucerne. After one year the lucerne ley was infested by Capsella bursapastoris and was broken up. P-manuring (2000 kg P2O5/ha) increased the yield of hay (4 cuts) by about 1500-2200 kg/ha, and increased the P content of the hay by 5-10%.
