Potato tubers, var. Bintje, which had been wounded by dropping or peeling were placed at 18 degrees C. for the first 16 days after wounding and then at 3 degrees C. Maximum respiration occurred 2-4 days after wounding and then decreased to the same level as that of undamaged potatoes. The respiration of tubers for the first days after wounding by part-peeling was 2.5 times that of unwounded tubers.
