The respiratory activity of equatorial soils. Application of the respirometric method in situ.

, : The respiratory activity of equatorial soils. Application of the respirometric method in situ.. Bull. Inst. agron. Gembl, 31: 154-182

Data gathered in several equatorial biotypes in the Congo are presented. Forest soils exhibited slight seasonal and daily respiratory variations. Depending on forest type, the respiratory levels varied from 500 to 630 mg CO2 released per m2 per hour. The CO2 release from cultivated soils, however, varied from 300 to 1400 mg. This large fluctuation was affected by climate (effects of temperature and humidity are given) and cultural operations (clearing, tillage and manuring results are given).
