The respiratory quotient of rats fed on fat- and cholesterol-rich diet

, : The respiratory quotient of rats fed on fat- and cholesterol-rich diet. Naturwissenschaften. 45: 444-445

For 6 months 3 groups of 6, 6 and 9 male rats received isocaloric diets in which 12, 80 and 80 per cent. of the energy value was provided by fat, which was tallow but included 5 per cent. cholesterol for the last group. The rats grew normally and showed no sign of deficiency. The respiratory quotient (R.Q.) was then measured in the rats fed and after fasting for 24, 48 and 72 hr.
