The response of different types of pigs to varying levels of feeding from weaning to bacon weight, with particular reference to carcass quality

, : The response of different types of pigs to varying levels of feeding from weaning to bacon weight, with particular reference to carcass quality. J. Agric. Sci, 47: 287-323

A review of the literature shows that restriction of feed intake by growing and fattening pigs does not in itself improve efficiency of feed conversion. When feed is severely restricted carcase quality is improved, but the time required to reach slaughter weight is too long for practical purposes, and small restrictions give only slight improvement which may be influenced by the genetic make-up of the pig more than by the plane of feeding.
