On volcanic-ash soil the P response of pasture species was most marked at the seedlings stage but decreased after the establishment of the root system. Heavy N dressings promoted the utilization of soil P by grasses. Pure grass sod showed a marked N response. Ladino clover only showed an N response in early spring.
