The response to light of ornamental and ordinary forms of woody plants.

, : The response to light of ornamental and ordinary forms of woody plants.. Bot. Zurnal. 47: 1426-36. bibl. 50

The ratio of chlorophyll a to b can serve as an indirect index of the response of plants to light. Golden-leaved forms of woody plants had a much lower total chlorophyll content, but a higher chlorophyll a: b ratio, than ordinary green forms of the same species. The light requirement of golden-leaved plants was also greater, and when grown in shade they resembled their original green-leaved forms.
