, : The results of investigations on the resistance of maize hybrids and varieties to smut (U. maydis. The results of the national varietal trials of improved crop varieties Budapest, 217-49

Among 82 Hungarian and introduced hybrids and 36 varieties, material with slight susceptibility included the certified hybrids Mv59 steril, Mv40, Mv48 steril and Mv48. Infection was generally less in early than in later-ripening forms and the two groups differed also in the distribution of infection within the plant. Differences in infection pattern were also observed between hybrids and varieties.
