The results of time-of-cutting experiments on maize for silage, 1956-9

, : The results of time-of-cutting experiments on maize for silage, 1956-9. Z. landw. Vers- u. UntersuchWes, 7: 4, 328-44. bibl. 14

The maize varieties Schindelmeiser and Wir 25 grown at 5 research institutes in E. Germany were cut (1) soon after flowering in late Aug., (2) at the milk stage in mid-Sep., (3) in the early wax stage (early Oct.). The mean fresh-weight yield changed little from stage (1) to (3) but the DM yield increased by 51% and the GP yield by 18%.
