The results of treatment for obesity: a review of the literature and report of a series

, : The results of treatment for obesity: a review of the literature and report of a series. A.M.A. Archives of Internal Medicine 103(1): 79-85

In a review of the literature only 9 papers were found which included the numbers both of patients who achieved satisfactory weight loss and of those who were uncooperative. With one exception these papers showed that results were remarkably poor. It is suggested that ambiguity of results on out-patient treatment for obesity has obscured its relative ineffectiveness. The results are reported for 100 consecutive obese out-patients in the Nutrition Clinic of a large teaching hospital.
