The reticulo-endothelial system (RES), its function in phagocytosis and iron metabolism

, : The reticulo-endothelial system (RES), its function in phagocytosis and iron metabolism. Tohoku Journal of Experimental Medicine 76: 179-188

Three male rabbits each weighing about 2 kg were used for each experiment, with 3 similar animals as controls. Each received one injection of chondroitin sulfuric acid iron colloid or serum iron colloid intra venously, 20 mg Fe or less, with or without 59Fe. Before the injection, some rabbits were bled of 90 ml daily for 3 days, or received Evans Blue intraven ously, 6 ml 0.5% solution 5 times in 10 days, or a suspension of dead Escherichia coli, 5 injections at intervals of 3 days.
