The retting and stripping of hemp.

, : The retting and stripping of hemp.. Ital. agric, 99: 775-86

The decline in hemp production in northern Italy is attributed to the lack of labour for hand retting and stripping. A pilot factory has proved that in 2-6 days a product as good as that from hand operations requiring 5-9 days can be produced by machinery, which removes 50% of the stem material before the rest is retted.
