The retting of Hibiscus in North Africa. Results with the Deroua type and other varieties.

, : The retting of Hibiscus in North Africa. Results with the Deroua type and other varieties.. Cot. et Fibr. trop, 17: 1, 41-80

At Deroua in Morocco, Hibiscus is retted in 20 x 4 x 3 m concrete tanks, divided into 3 cells, to which 150m3 of well water at 23 degrees C are added. In Sep. retting takes 26 days, but at the turn of the year it takes 72 days. By adding 45 kg of urea to a tank (0.135 g N/l. of water) this figure of 72 can be reduced to 52 days. A warm-water ret, starting at 31 degrees C, can be accelerated from 15 to 8 days.
