The rigidity of nailed timber joints

, : The rigidity of nailed timber joints. Dissert. Abstr, 20: 7, 2719

Studies were made, in which the rotation of nailed timber joints was considered as a function of the geometry of the joint, the properties of the timber and nails, and the forces on the joint. Variables considered were: the moment applied to the joint; the sp. gr., depth, and thickness of the timber; the length of the joint; the number of nails used; their distance from the centre of gravity of the nail pattern; their diameter; their penetration; and the proportional limit of the nail steel.
