The value of antibiotics for growth of pigs

, : The value of antibiotics for growth of pigs. Malcolm Woodbine, Editor Antibiotics in Agriculture Proceedings of the University of Nottingham Ninth Easter School in Agricultural Science p 185-202

A distinction is made between the comparative failure of antibiotics to enable the very young pig to overcome tne stresses of non-maternal rearing, and their success as growth promoters in stable systems of husbandry. Factors affecting the growth response[long dash]the size and growth rate of the animal; the diet and plane of nutrition__are considered, with particular reference to the indications of diminishing response in recent years. Mode of action of antibiotics is treated mainly from a chemical standpoint. The value of antibiotics in pig feeding is reviewed with reference to American and British practice.
