A novel charring technique for detection of lipids on thin-layer chromatograms

, : A novel charring technique for detection of lipids on thin-layer chromatograms. J. Chromatography. 56: 320-323

Chromatographic plates were prepared from a slurry of 30 g Silica Gel G containing 14% CaSO4 and 60 ml 1% or 10% (NH4)2SO4. After development the plates were heated at 200o for 20 min and the H2SO4 evolved charred the non-polar lipid spots. The presence of (NH4)2SO4 improved the separation of some lipids.
