A trial introduction of Sardinian sheep to the Roquefort region

, : A trial introduction of Sardinian sheep to the Roquefort region. Bull. tech. Inf, 215, 941-956

The performance of 112 Sardinian ewes, half of which were machine-milked and half hand-milked, was compared with an equivalent number of Lacaune ewes over 4 seasons to study then- adaptability to Roquefort conditions. Tables and graphs give data on ewe fertility and milk production and on lamb growth. In general, Sardinian sheep acclimatized well and proved adaptable to variations in feeding. Their milk production averaged 78-141 litres per lactation v. 68-107 for the Lacaune ewes.
