Changes in plasma insulin related to the type of dietary carbohydrate in overweight hyperlipidemic male patients

, : Changes in plasma insulin related to the type of dietary carbohydrate in overweight hyperlipidemic male patients. Canadian Medical Association Journal 105(9): 923-926

Five overweight male patients, 4 with mild diabetes and 1 with angina pectoris, had normal fasting blood sugar and were hyperlipidaemic. They received in sequence for periods of 3 to 5 weeks 2 diets containing 40 to 50% carbohydrate. Of the energy from carbohydrate 75% was derived from mono- and disaccharides in one diet and from polysaccharides, mainly starch and pectins, in the other; otherwise the diets were similar.
