Control of progression of cells through the mitotic cycle. Requirements for RNA and protein synthesis

, : Control of progression of cells through the mitotic cycle. Requirements for RNA and protein synthesis. Abst. Pap. XI Internat. bot. Congr, 234 p

Studies of pea root-tip cells have indicated that the requirement for RNA synthesis for entry of G1 cells into the S phase and G2 cells into mitosis is satisfied 4-8 hr. prior to that for protein synthesis. Following carbohydrate starvation for up to 96 hr., G1 and G2 cells in nonproliferating root meristems retain the capacity to initiate DNA synthesis and mitosis, respectively, in the presence of actinomycin D.
