A basal diet of polished rice powder was given to 105 female Wistar rats weighing 100 to 110 g and divided into groups of 5 to 6. The diet was supplemented in several groups by a vitamin mixture, 3, 6 or 12% soya bean oil or 18% casein given singly or in combination. After 2 weeks the liver non-haem Fe was estimated in 22 rats. The remainder were given 59FeSO4 by stomach tube. 59Fe activity in blood during the first hour and in liver after 2 h was estimated.
