Lucerne meal was sifted; the product was a uniform meal with 9.94% cellulose. It was included as 3, 6, 12 or 24% of the diet, replacing a 60: 40 mixture of soya bean oilmeal and bran to provide equal amounts of protein. The diets contained also maize, fishmeal, premix and from 0.400 to 0.566% crude soya saponins. The diets were given to groups of 60 New Hampshire chickens during just over 9 weeks.
