2 mares in the 2nd month of lactation and stall fed on hay and salt lick ad lib. and 5 kg oats/mare/day each received daily for consecutive periods of 4-5 days: no addition to diet; 22 g methylthiouracil (M); 44 g M; 66 g M; and no addition to diet. The mares were milked every 1-5 h during 8-16 h periods each day. Milk yields and TS, fat, casein, lactose and ascorbic acid contents and yields and body temp. and heart and respiration rates were determined daily.
