Intestinal absorption studies in the aged

, : Intestinal absorption studies in the aged. Geriatrics 23(4): 149-153

Of the 50 men and women 62 to 97 years old none showed signs of any disease or revealed symptoms indicative of any organic involvement except those usually found in old age such as arteriosclerosis, osteoporosis and general mental confusion, but 9 showed severe wasting which included loss of weight, apathy and severe mental abnormalities. Many of these patients tended to waste away until they died. Each of the 50 patients showed low xylose absorption.
