Natural selection for cold resistance in winter oat bulk populations

, : Natural selection for cold resistance in winter oat bulk populations. Abstracts of the Annual Meetings of the American Society of Agronomy held at Columbus, Ohio, on October 31-November 5 1965. 15 p

The F3, F4 and F5 progenies of 23 populations subjected annually to severe natural selection showed, on the average, significant increases in resistance each year. The extent of the increase was negatively correlated with the initial resistance level. Natural selection was effective in increasing resistance in populations with a low initial survival value relative to the selection pressure for winter survival.
